Pinewood Derby 2010

Anyone who knows me well probably knows my honest opinion of pinewood derbys. I HATE them. Sorry boys, it's just how I feel. See, I am always the one who has to help the boys get their cars ready. I guess what I really hate is that our cars never stand a chance of winning. The competition is just too much. :) This year I decided I was not going to cut the cars out. My scroll saw is in the messy garage (from all the remodel stuff) and I didn't feel like sitting in the cold garage and doing it. So, this mom went to Michaels and bought kits. They were all cut out with paint and stickers and weights. (at least I thought) The boys built their own cars and painted them. We took them to weight in with our weights from the kit and well, the cars only weighed about 2-3 oz with the weights. :) Thankfully another super pinewood derby dad gave us some weight to add. Now the cool cars looked less cool with weight all over them. Caleb picked the Monster truck. He named it Monsterey Truckerey. ??
Breckin went with the drag racer. Notice the brick of weight. :) He named his car Dragerey. ??
The best part was the 2 blocks left over that Trenton and Keaton got to paint. They even had a kid race in which Keatons car barely made it to the finish line. They both had been playing with their cars for a week and the wheels were barely on. :) So official. Calebs car did fine. It won I think one of the heats. Breckins too. Overall Breckins car took 5th place based on time but because all the fast cars were in the Wolves den he didn't advance to the finals. I am sure one day, a Forstrom boy might win a pinewood derby. Maybe I should start now to master the art of building such a winning car. Then again, who has the time??
Canon and Eli had fun running around. Dave was at a work dinner so it was nice to be at a Pack mtg. where the boys didn't have to sit and be quiet.

Did Matt tell you about his first Pinewood Derby? His dad was gone on military duty and his mom helped him. The car didn't even make it down the track!

You're a good sport. Without Matt, I doubt our kids would even have cars. :P

Sierra - I'm with you. I really don't like the Pinewood Derby either. I cant compete with the "PWD Dads" who are the equivalent to "Stage Moms"...next year I am doing it up right though. I didn't realize they already had the cars cut out at Michael's..perfect!

I can't tell you how happy we are to be finished with pinewood derby races! Peter turned 11 a week before the derby this year so we didn't have to do it. Hooray! Glad you at least had a fun night.

You need your Dad at times like these.
