Today we received our first extra freezer ever. I am so excited. My parents are coming to visit this weekend with half a cow we bought. We knew it would never fit in the simple side by side freezer so we went wild and bought a BIG freezer. I am not sure why we never have had one up to this point. I am so excited to shop at Costco now and not wonder if I have room or not. My mom is so cute and said that she will feel SO much better knowing we have a freezer full of food. I'll post a picture at the end of the week to see where we're at so my mom can rest easy. :-) The boys thought it was cool too. Gavin asked how much it cost and I said a lot. His instant reply was, " well, we're worth it." Isn't that the truth. One day I won't be able to keep food in the house for 7 plus boys and their friends.

How does buying a cow work?
I can't wait to see a full freezer - you can embrace that then too :)!
Hey Shauna - let's share a cow. Do they do that here?
Have fun with your Mom when she is there. I have to say that I miss your Mom and her visits almost as much as I miss you. I think your Mom is great.
My mom has a friend who raises cows and so for years she has been buying one from her. When it is ready "all grown" she takes it in to be butchered. I am sharing this cow with my brother. We each got to pick how we wanted it cut up. We will have almost 300 pounds each of a variety of roasts, steaks, hamburger and whatever else we asked for. It works out to be a pretty good price plus it is all fresh and organic even. They also package it in the amount that fits your family. Like 2 pounds for hamburger or 5 steaks in a package etc. I will embrace my full freezer. :-0
I want to see a pic of the freezer after "the cow" (or 1/2 a cow) is stocked in there! I remember my parents buying some of a butchered cow when I was younger. Wait...we had cows at my house when I was youger.
I was looking into this a few weeks ago because I have a friend who is buying a quarter cow. That amount would seem more manageable to me. You'll have to let us know how it turns out and maybe I'll think about doing it next year.
